5G standards are not likely to be approved until 2019 yet the evolution from 4G to 5G is a constant and will show continuous improvements. Cellular, Wi Fi, and IoT are increasingly fed by Fiber Optics to achieve the CAPACITY and COVERAGE needed to meet demand. The blending of the multiple network types is called a Heterogeneous Network.

The increasing need to Densify Networks is generating a major deployment of small cell technology distributed by fiber optics to get antennas closer to the end user phone signals. This EDGE infrastructure will be the interface between devices and networks as we evolve to 5G.

These networks are increasingly becoming critical to public safety, transportation, energy, education and other key segments of society.

Sensors utilize low bandwidth but are proliferating exponentially. Video is seeing a sharp rise in deployments for Public Safety and Transportation. From Body Cams to High Range Zoom Pole Mounted Cameras, these applications require 100 percent reliability and very high bandwidth throughput.

Cities depend on Connectivity as part of the process of “Getting to Smart”. It is a core capability when developing a Smart City. Issues from Digital Equity to Policy on Deployment will shape the success of the Network Infrastructure of a City or a Community. The construction of these networks will be a significant job creator as well.
